Required Reading is a weekly listing of all the bits of visual inspiration, cool videos, news, hip links, and miscellaneous information that rattles my head during the week. The stuff that’s worth bookmarking and gets my brain-juices flowing.

• I am a sucker for a visually interesting music video, bonus points if that video is full of gorgeous abstract black and white imagery like Matthew Dear’s Slowdance directed by Charles Bergquist

Matthew Dear – “Slowdance” by Charles Bergquist from Ghostly International on Vimeo.

•  Chase Jarvis’ shares some great words of wisdom for photographers and creatives with Tamara Lackey of Adorama TV.

• A series of images that I photographed for the Made by Anatomy Made to Measure collection was just featured on Behance Network’s wonderfully curated Fashion Served Collection.

• The always insightful site, The 99% offers a variety of methods to identify and overcome different types of creative block.

• A collection of duo-tones from the world of vintage cinematic posters. So many of my film favorites make an appearance in this gallery, like the notorious and striking poster for Rosemary’s Baby.

 • Another one of the seemingly random collections of pop-culture minutia that the web seems to collect and I seem to become overly obsessed with due to my natural nerd tendencies – This week it is a gallery of comic book mastheads.

The Paper Desert – Using man-made materials to mimic natural landscapes.

• A Quote from Steve Jobs and a desktop wallpaper with a message I can get behind – Stop talking and start producing – Real Artists Ship.

I Bring you Fire – An editorial on the Ben Trovato blog by Daniem Elroy Vignaux that I really fell for this week.

• A brilliant and simple video directed by Teemu Niukkanen for French Films’ song You Don’t Know.

FRENCH FILMS – You Don´t Know from Teemu Niukkanen on Vimeo.

• Vice – Islamabad Fashion Week – A look at an emerging fashion culture in a Pakistan and the attitudes that surround it.

• Chipotle is making better and more effective ad spots for their Chipotle Cultivate Foundation all the time, this one, featuring Karen O. Singing a Willy Nelson Classic, is a great followup to the previous animates spot they did with Mr. Nelson singing  a Coldplay track that I featured previously.

• I love Zack Arias’ latest blog on his process for editing and creating a print portfolio, an important and often overlooked tool for any creative. Editing and self curation are essential skills for emerging creatives to develop.
